momsleagueglobal 77 12 Nov
As we strive to break the stigma surrounding breast health, it is essential to have open and honest conversations about breast awareness and cancer prevention. In this insightful interview, Sumiti Malhotra founder of Flicker and Flames by Sumi, shares her personal perspective on the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection, and the role we can all play in supporting those affected by breast cancer. Let us dive into her thoughts and experiences.

Momsleague Global: What was your initial reaction when you received your breast cancer diagnosis, and how did you cope with the news?

Sumiti: I didn’t believe when I got the news because somehow I made my mind my reports will be negative no matter what. I was in denial and went in shock because I lost my mom to breast cancer and only thing was on my mind was my son.

Momsleague Global: What was the most challenging part of your breast cancer journey, and how did you overcome it?

Sumiti: Whole journey itself was very challenging. No one plans to go through this phase. And trust me there is no easy way to get out of this. But yes if I have to name most challenging part - it was chemotherapy sessions and my first chemo gave me high fever and chills because chemo port that was inserted in my chest failed and my body reacted badly. I was very serious that time and had to get operated on emergency.

Momsleague Global: How has your life changed since your breast cancer diagnosis and treatment? Have there been any positive changes or new perspectives?

Sumiti: My diagnose and treatment made me very positive. I knew and manifested I will come out of this. I started painting and singing while undergoing chemo sessions. It was really painful but rather than crying I use to sing ( like screaming in pain). I think I accepted me better and started loving myself more. I knew I am getting this second chance in life and I never hide myself. I embrace my bald look and took as many pics I can because i didn’t wanna forget this phase ever.

Momsleague Global: What advice would you give to someone who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer?

Sumiti: I can only say one thing. Love yourself more each day, do what makes you happy, accept your flaws and failures along with success and most important thing never ignore any sign u get, self exam yourself daily while you shower and go for annual check ups to make sure you are FINE.
